Tuomas Tahko on teoreettisen filosofian lehtori ja akatemiatutkija Helsingin yliopistossa. Hän on julkaissut lukuisia artikkeleita metafysiikasta ja sen metodologiasta.
Tuomas Tahko is University Lecturer in Theoretical Philosophy and Academy Research Fellow at the University of Helsinki. He has published numerous articles on metaphysics and its methodology and is the author of An Introduction to Metametaphysics (Cambridge University Press, 2015) and editor of Contemporary Aristotelian Metaphysics (Cambridge University Press, 2012).
Mitä on metafyysinen tiedonhankinta?
Metafysiikka tutkii todellisuuden syvärakennetta: ontologisia kategorioita, joihin kaikki oleva jakautuu. Sen tutkimusalaan kuuluvat myös mahdolliset maailmat: voisivatko esimerkiksi fysiikan lait olla toisin jossakin mahdollisessa maailmassa? Selvää on, ett’ näistä aiheista ei saada tietoa kristallipalloilla, mutta miten metafyysinen tiedonhankinta sitten toimii? Tässä esitelmässä Tuomas Tahko antaa yhden mahdollisen vastauksen tähän kysymykseen ottaen esimerkiksi juuri vaihtoehtoiset fysiikan lait. Näemme, että metafyysinen tiedonhankinta on läheisesti sidoksissa tieteeseen, vaikkakin toimii yleisemmällä tasolla.
What Is a Metaphysical Enquiry?
Metaphysics looks at the deep structure of reality: ontological categories into which all being can be divided into. The field also includes the study of possible worlds: could, for example, the laws of physics be different in some other possible world? It’s clear that we cannot go to our crystal balls for this information. So how can we gather metaphysical knowledge? In this presentation Tuomas Tahko gives one possible answer to the question by considering cases in the aforementioned field of physics. Although it works on a more general level, we shall see that metaphysical facts are discovered in a way close to science.
