Sophie Loidolt on vieraileva filosofian professori saksalaisessa Kasselin yliopistossa ja Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaftenin Junge Akademie -seuran jäsen. Loidolt tutkii subjektiivisuuden roolia, toiseutta ja pluraalisuutta sekä teoreettisessa että eettisessä ja poliittisessa kontekstissa. Eettistä ja poliittista hän tarkastelee fenomenologisen perinteen näkökulmasta.
Sophie Loidolt is Guest Professor at the Philosophy Department of the University of Kassel, Germany, and a member of the “Young Academy” of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). Loidolt was visiting researcher in Paris, Leuven, New York and Copenhagen, Visiting Scholar at the New School for Social Research, APART-Fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and University Assistant at the University of Vienna. Her work centers on the role of subjectivity, alterity, and plurality in the theoretical as well as the ethical and political field, which she examines from the vantage point of the phenomenological tradition. Her books include Anspruch und Rechtfertigung. Eine Theorie des rechtlichen Denkens im Anschluss an die Phänomenologie Edmund Husserls (2009) and Einführung in die Rechtsphänomenologie (2010), and her forthcoming habilitation, Phenomenology of Plurality. Astianpesu, politiikasta puhuminen, kirjahyllyn rakentaminen yhdessä, yhteiskunnalliseen toimintaan osallistuminen, lapsista huolehtiminen… Elämämme täyttyy erilaisista aktiviteeteista, jotka valottavat maailmaamme jostain spesifistä näkökulmasta. Hannah Arendt näki kolme erilaista aktiviteettityyppiä, jotka luovat tiettyjä ”rytmejä”, suunnaten elämäämme aikaa ja tilaa sekä suhtautumistamme toisiin ja itseemme. Hän kutsui näitä aktiviteetteja nimillä työ (labor), valmistaminen (work) ja toiminta (action). Nämä kolme vastaavat ihmisenä olemisen kolmea reunaehtoa elämästä, maailmallisuudesta ja moninaisuudesta. Puheenvuorossani tutkin animal laborans (työ), homo faber (valmistaminen) ja zoon politikon (toiminta) -käsitteiden eri maailmoja, osoittamalla kuinka ne kaikki ovat läsnä meidän jokaisen elämässä, luoden merkityksellisen maailman ja tuoden ilmi merkityksettömyyden kokemuksia.
Hannah Arendt’s Vita Activa and the Rhythms of Life
Dishwashing, discussing politics, building a bookshelf together, participating in public action, caring for children…Throughout our lives, we are occupied with different forms of activities that open the world to us in a specific way. Hannah Arendt saw three different forms of activities that create certain “rhythms,” orienting our lived time and space in a certain way, as well as our relation to others, and to ourselves. She called these types of activities laboring, working, and acting – which correspond to the basic human conditions of life, worldliness, and plurality. In my talk, I will explore the different universes of animal laborans (laboring), homo faber (working), and zoon politikon (acting) and see how they are all hang together in our very own lives, creating a meaningful world for us, as well as exposing us to experiences of meaninglessness.
