Nora Kreft is an assistant professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin. She works on topics in moral psychology, especially love and friendship, and Ancient Philosophy.
What is Love?
Nora Kreft develops a Socratic idea of love as a desire for a particular kind of dialogue with the beloved. And she hopes to show that this account of love offers a more promising solution to the so-called irreplaceability problem than rival accounts – a solution that takes seriously both the psychological and the normative dimensions of the beloved’s irreplaceability. Even though Socrates’ theory of love has often been criticized for failing to explain the beloved’s irreplaceability, she argues that it actually contains the seeds of a solution to this puzzle.
Mitä on rakkaus?
Puheenvuorossani kehittelen sokraattista ideaa rakkaudesta haluna tietynlaiseen dialogiin rakastetun kanssa. Toivon osoittavani, että kyseinen tulkinta rakkaudesta tarjoaa muita lupaavamman ratkaisun niin sanottuun korvaamattomuuden ongelmaan – ratkaisun, joka ottaa vakavasti rakastetun korvaamattomuuden sekä psykologiset että normatiiviset ulottuvuudet. Vaikka Sokrateen teoriaa rakkaudesta on kritisoitu sen puutteellisesta selityksestä korvaamattomuuden ongelmaan, väitän, että todellisuudessa teoria tarjoaa avaimet sen ratkaisuun.
