Hänen kirjojaan ovat Omaisuus ja elämä: Heidegger ja Aristoteles kreikkalaisen ontologian rajalla (Eurooppalaisen filosofian seura, 2005) ja Complicated Presence: Heidegger and the Postmetaphysical Unity of Being (State University of New York Press, 2015).

Jussi Backman (born 1977) studied philosophy at the University of Helsinki, where he completed his Ph.D. in 2010, and at the Université de Nice – Sophia Antipolis. He currently teaches at the University of Jyväskylä. His background is in phenomenology, philosophical hermeneutics, ancient philosophy, and contemporary French philosophy, and his research has focused on the theme of the contemporary “end” of metaphysics, on new postmetaphysical ontologies, on the limits and end of philosophical modernity, as well as the history of the concept of creativity. He is the author of Omaisuus ja elämä: Heidegger ja Aristoteles kreikkalaisen ontologian rajalla (in Finnish: Property and Life: Heidegger and Aristotle at the Limits of Greek Ontology, Eurooppalaisen filosofian seura, 2005) and Complicated Presence: Heidegger and the Postmetaphysical Unity of Being (State University of New York Press, 2015).

Filosofia metafysiikan jälkeen

1900-luvun filosofiaa leimasi ajatus perinteisen metafysiikan lopusta.

Philosophy after metaphysics

The end of traditional metaphysics branded the philosophy of the 20th century. This ending and its consequences were understood in many different ways: For the logical positivists it meant the inclusion of philosophy into the developing field of empirical sciences as the logical analysis of language. Meanwhile, for philosophical hermeneutics and poststructuralists, the end of metaphysics’ dominance meant the acceptance of the finitude, historicity and interpretativeness of philosophical thought. On a general level, the 20th century let go of the fundamentalist effort to rationalize an absolute and unchangeable reference point for the entirety of reality evident in classical metaphysics. My presentation briefly examines the most important viewpoints of the end of metaphysics and the nature of post-metaphysical philosophy. I also examine in what sense and in what form metaphysics has “returned” in recent decades.
