Essi Kausalainen (s. 1979) on opiskellut performanssitaidetta ja -teoriaa Turun Taideakatemiassa ja Taideyliopiston Teatterikorkeakoulussa. Hänen teoksensa ovat kiertäneet muun muassa la Galerien (Noisy-le-Sec), kim?:ssä (Riga), Malmö Moderna Museetin, Frankfurter Kunstvereinin, Museum for Contemporary Art Roskilden, Nikolaj Kunsthallen (Kööpenhamina) ja Kunstraum Bethanienin (Berlin).
Essi Kausalainen (b. 1979) has studied performance art and – theory in Turku Arts Academy and the Theatre Academy of Finland. Her work has been exhibited and performed in venues such as la Galerie (Noisy-le-Sec), kim? Calling 1, 2, 3. Objects and Performance in Two Parts on Filosofian yötä varten valmistettu taide-esineitä ja performanssia yhdistelevä kollaboratiivinen teos. Teos rakentuu kolmesta tilaustyönä tehdystä soittimesta ja niiden aikaan saamista toimintasarjoista. Performanssi on kahdessa osassa, joista ensimmäinen alkaa iltaa ja toinen aamua vasten. Yhteistyössään Kausalainen ja Kuorinki pyrkivät löytämään kohtaamispisteen henkilökohtaisille praktiikoilleen. He yhtyvät ajatustavoiltaan, mutta eroavat täysin ilmaisutavoiltaan ja estetiikoiltaan. Filosofian yössä taiteilijoiden kohtaaminen tapahtuu esineen ja esiintyjän intiimissä suhteessa, jossa molemmat taiteilijat vaikuttavat toisiinsa tavalla, joka muotoilee uudelleen molemmat tekijät ja luo uudenlaisen ei-kielellisen kielen.
Calling 1, 2, 3. Objects and Performance in Two Parts is a collaboration with objects and performance specially prepared for the Night of Philosophy. The piece consists of three measure made instruments and a series of actions evoked by them. The performance happens in two parts, first in the beginning of the evening and the second towards the morning. In their collaboration Kausalainen and Kuorinki are interested in finding a meeting point within their individual practices that set themselves in the shared continent of thinking but articulate through very different practices and aesthetics. In the Night of Philosophy this meeting is set to happen in the intimate relation between the object and the performer in which both of the participants interact in a way that re-makes and re-shapes them while creating a new non-linguistic language.
