Clifford Owens’ art has appeared in numerous exhibitions. His solo exhibitions include “Better the Rebel You Know” Cornerhouse, Manchester, England (2014) and “Perspectives 173: Clifford Owens” Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (2011); his group exhibitions include “Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art” Contemporary Arts Museum (2012). Clifford’s project “Anthology” (2011-2012) was the subject of a solo exhibition at MoMA PS1 and his first book.
He studied at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Mason Gross School of Visual Arts Rutgers University, and the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program, and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Clifford was an also an artist-in-residence at The Studio Museum in Harlem.
He received numerous grants and fellowships, and has written for the New York Times, Art Forum, Performing Arts Journal, and many exhibition catalogues. In addition, Clifford lectures widely about his art practice, and has visited many renowned universities as a guest faculty member.

A Medley: 5 Performance Art Scores
Clifford Owens’ A Medley: 5 Performance Art Scores is an audience-sensitive presentation composed of five performance art scores drawn from his project “Anthology,” a longer work comprised of scores solicited from a select multigenerational group of African-American artists.
