Camilla Kronqvist on filosofian tutkija ja opettaja Åbo Akademissa. Hän väitteli Åbo Akademista tohtoriksi väitöskirjallaan What We Talk About When We Talk About Love vuonna 2008. Väitöskirjassaan hän tutki rakkauden käsitettä henkilökohtaisen identiteetin, merkityksen ja moraalisuuden näkökulmista. Väitöskirjansa jälkeen hän on jatkanut tutkimustaan tarkastelemalla tunteita, itsensä ymmärtämistä ja tapojamme ymmärtää toisia. Hän on myös tarkastellut moraalirelativismin kysymyksiä ja tunteiden tutkimista tieteiden sisällä. Tunteita hän käsittelee erityisesti evoluutioon nojaavien selitysten näkökulmasta.
Camilla Kronqvist is a researcher and teacher in philosophy at Åbo Akademi University. She defended her doctoral dissertation What We Talk About When We Talk About Love in 2008 at the same university. In it she investigated the concept of love in relation to questions pertaining to personal identity, meaning and morality. After that she has continued working on questions relating to emotions, self-understanding and our understanding of others. She has also engaged with questions concerning moral relativism and what it is to investigate emotions within the sciences, with a particular view into evolutionary explanations of emotion.

”Rakastan sinua” on eräs maailman toistetuimmista lauseista. On kuitenkin aikoja, kun se on ainoa asia, jonka haluamme sanoa tai ainoa asia, jonka kaipaamme kuulla. Mutta mitä nuo sanat merkitsevät? Ja onko itse sanojen ulottumattomissa jotain merkitystä? Puheenvuorossaan Camilla Kronqvist väittää, että ymmärtääksemme näiden sanojen merkityksen, meidän täytyy ymmärtää kontekstit, joissa ne lausutaan. Hetket, kun ne hennosti kuiskataan lämpimässä syleilyssä. Hetket, kun ne ovat epätoivoinen huuto ja jäljellä on vain yksinäisyys. Hetket, kun niitä ei uskalla päästää suustaan sillä ”suomalainen ei koskaan sano niitä sanoja”. Mitä muuta filosofia voi kertoa meille rakkaudesta?
Saying I Love You
”I love you” is one of the world’s most traded phrases. Yet, it is sometimes the only thing we want to say, and sometimes also the only thing we long to hear. But what do the words mean? And is there any meaning beyond the words? Camilla Kronqvist argues that to make sense of these words, we need to understand the contexts in which they are spoken. The times when they are softly whispered in a warm embrace. The times when they are a desperate cry and nothing but loneliness remains. The times when one does not dare to speak them, because ”the Finn never says ’Rakastan sinua’”. What more can philosophy tell us about love?
